My Ethnicity DNA Test Results

It is now very common to see advertisements offering DNA testing to show one's "ancestry". What is not explained in those ads is that the most common test gives only ethnicity estimates (percentage) and does not give in-depth detail about those groups known as Hapolod Groups.

There are three kinds of DNA tests available as follows:

1. Autosomal DNA: This test looks at the 22 pair of non-sex chromosomes and the X chromosome (sex chromosome) in the nucleus of human cells. These are chromosomes inherited from both parents and provide only ethnicity estimates. This is the most common test offered by such companies as Ancestry.com, My Heritage, Family Tree DNA and others. This test usually costs under a hundred dollars.

2. Y-DNA: The Y-DNA test looks at the sex chromosome inherited from your father and gives specific information from your paternal lineage. This test is more expensive and is usually done in conjunction with the third test below.

3. mtDNA: This is a mitochondrial DNA test. Mitochondria are cell structures that provide energy for cell function and are inherited only from females through their eggs. The combination of Y-DNA and mtDNA tests are much more specific in determining ethnic groups and can cost a thousand dollars or more.

I had two Autosomal DNA tests run by two different companies......Ancestry.com and My Heritage. The results provided are shown below with My Heritage appearing first.

In both cases my ethnicity is 100 percent European. Not explained in the two tests are the haplogroups. The haplogroup to which Yoho's belong is designated R1b and is the most common haplogroup in Western Europe. The combination Y-DNA/mt-DNA test provided by Earl Yoho shows the haplogroup R1b1b2a1b4c known as the "Celtic Alpine" and is found in Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, Britian, Ireland and Norway. Genealogy and Support of European Origin of Joho/Yoho

Since the Yoho ancestors migrated out of Africa through Eastern Europe and my mother's mother came from Lithuania this explains the 61-66% Eastern European component in the two tests below.
